Spinal Stenosis
Minimally invasive procedures to address spinal stenosis and enhance your daily life.
At Gemini Spine, spine care goes beyond pain relief—we focus on restoring the structural integrity and function of your spine using surgical precision, biomechanical expertise, and the most advanced tools available.
What Is Spinal Stenosis?
Spinal stenosis occurs when the open spaces within the spine begin to narrow, placing pressure on the spinal cord and nerves. This narrowing can develop from age-related changes, arthritis, thickened ligaments, or herniated discs. The result is often pain, numbness, or weakness in the back, legs, or arms—symptoms that can limit activity and quality of life.
Spinal stenosis is a common problem. We approach this issue by first educating and guiding the patient through all available nonoperative options.
If surgery becomes necessary then we utilize the most technologically advanced methods to address this problem based on the patient’s specific symptoms, activity level and goals of treatment.
We are specialists in motion-preserving surgery, that means decompression procedures or cervical and lumbar total disc replacements.
Common Spinal Stenosis Procedures
Tubular decompression is performed through a 1-inch keyhole incision that allows us to open space around the nerves by removing bone spurs, herniated disc material and thick ligament. Our quick 30 minute outpatient procedure is easy to recover from with most patients returning to work within 5 to 10 days.
Disc replacement allows us to treat the stenosis by removing the disc while still maintaining motion through the spinal level. These implants are made of materials similar to the ones used in hip and knee replacement and therefore are safe in the body and durable over long periods of time.
Fusion procedures are also an option. Our minimally invasive lumbar fusion technique allows the vast majority of our patients to be up and walking and return home the same day. With a 1-hour procedure using 2 small 1 inch incisions we can restore stability, function and alignment to the spine.
