Dr. Abhishek Kumar brings an orthopedic foundation to spinal surgery, with deep expertise in motion preservation techniques , spinal deformity correction, and advanced stabilization procedures for patients with persistent pain following previous spine surgery. His attention to body mechanics and bony architecture complements neurosurgical care, creating a powerful partnership for patients.
Dr. Kumar grew up under the shadow of the Rocky Mountains in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. He started a degree in Biological Sciences at the University of Alberta but left early to begin Medical School at the University of Calgary. Residency at the prestigious McGill University in
Montreal, Canada was followed by a year of subspecialization training focused on Minimally invasive spine surgery and Deformity correction at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York.
His major clinical and research interests lie in advancing minimally invasive surgical techniques and motion preservation options for the spine. His time in practice in an Academic setting at Louisiana State University in New Orleans included significant experience in Tumors of the Spine as well as both high velocity impact and penetrating traumatic injuries of the spine. There, he also served as Assistant Director of the Orthopedic Residency Program. He was hand-picked to return to the Northeast and has since been optimizing his technique to allow his patients to rapidly recover from outpatient spine surgery including both decompression as well as fusion procedures of the cervical and lumbar spine.
Through his practice over the last decade he has gleaned key insights allowing him to offer focused and effective surgical procedures for patients who have endured previous spine surgery and suffer with chronic pain.
In his spare time he reviews articles for some of the most respected journals including Orthopedics, International Journal of Spine Surgery, Global Spine Journal and The Bone and Joint Journal (UK). He also finds time for bouldering, surfing, yoga and quality time making BBQ with his Wife.
